At first glance this may not seem like the place you’d find a quality taco or margarita. The interior is dark, perhaps even too dark. Some guys like to take girls to bars that are dark in case their friends or ex-girlfriends see them, and this is certainly one of those spots (so be careful ladies).
The walls and floors are made from wood reclaimed from a barn in Vermont. Not exactly Mexican-themed, but it looks beautiful nonetheless. Needless to say, you won’t find maracas, sombreros or cartoon versions of Pancho Villa at Viktor & Spoils. Here, it’s about the food and drink - and Viktor & Spoils has plenty of both.
Before you ask - yes, they do have a fantastic guacamole. Creamy and cool with just the right amount of onion, it’s truly a great guac. There is a ton of flavor packed into their tacos and taquitos. For tacos, the homemade chorizo with cilantro-avocado crema and pickled red onion is a must-eat. And lobster fans will love the Elote Corn & Lobster. The sweetness of the corn and the lobster works perfectly with the sharpness of the Cotija cheese.
Throw in a make-you-own-nachos option, including toppings like roasted cactus, short rib and, again, lobster, and you’ve got one hell of a menu.
But in the end, a bar like this has to have just that - a bar, and Viktor & Spoils has all that and a bag of nachos. You’ll find most of your old (though perhaps not so dear) friends like Dos Equis, Tecate and Corona, as well as a solid wine menu. But it’s all about the Tequila and Mezcal here. Taking the quality over quantity approach, Viktor & Spoils has selected over 30 different Mezcals and Tequilas, including Blanco, Reposado, Anejo and Extra Anejo.
And since not everyone thinks shots are particularly classy, Viktor & Spoils has you covered with delicious cocktails, including everything from the traditional margarita, to the playful and perfectly pink Watermelon Margarita and the “Cosmolito,” a blend of Olmeca Blanco Tequila, Grand Marnier, lime and fresh-pressed cranberry juice. Viktor & Spoils is perhaps the most non-traditional traditional Tequila bar in the city. With a menu consisting of interesting takes on dishes many have seen before, to a drinks menu established with the utmost care, Viktor & Spoils is like your casa away from casa.
