A Review: Cienfuegos

The gentlemen who brought Death & Co and Mayahuel to the East Village, opened this secret rum social club this past spring.  You must enter through Carteles, the Cuban sandwich shop on the first floor.   Head to the back, where you will be escorted upstairs to this Havana style lounge.  The space is decorated in pinks and greens, and highlighted by candles and mismatched lamps.   This is the perfect location to impress a date or for the first stop on a girls’ night out.  Be sure to order one of the exotic rum punch bowls, which are priced at about $100 to share for a party of 4 or 5.  The drinks can also be ordered in individual sizes, but where is the fun in that?  The huge golden bowls are served with a ladle and adorable glasses to enjoy the strong and made-to-order toxic mix.  These potions are delicious, but dangerous, and the setting is so intimate, you may just forget who you arrived with and head out with a handsome stranger.            Cienfuegos.  443 East 6th st.
